Over the weekend I picked up a Rolling Stone, I had time to kill and got suckered in by the cover photo (I guess that means it worked). The cover story was about kids of rockstars who aren't messed up, much. Feel sorry for Art Garfunkel's kid, he got the hair in bright red shade.
Two other articles, tho, have really captured my attention- one prurient and the other apocalyptic. I'm ashamed and fascinated by Matt Tabbi's account of the Michael Jackson trial. Jacko's gonna walk. Not that he's innocent, but his accuser's family is one thrown chair away from a Jerry Springer episode.
The other article is The Long Emergency by unfortunately named James Kunstler. This is one of those doomsayer pieces, and it's a pretty scary one at that. I remember articles in mags back in the '70s that foretold the end of oil, mostly this championed the developement of nuclear power. James puts the argument in dumbed down, but effective, perspective by asking what will happen when we run out of cheap oil. Not run out of oil, but run out of cheap oil. He touches on the demise of social structure via the collapse of Walmart. That should hit home, I think.
It's raining, again, and I'm a little hungover reading about the end of the world. How's your weekend going.
Go in Peace
